Sprinkler Spacing & Coverage Calculator
Enter your sprinkler spacing and it returns the coverage area per sprinkler, plus the required flow for every hazard density — Light, Ordinary Hazard 1 & 2, and Extra Hazard 1 & 2.
What it does
Pick whether each dimension is the distance between sprinklers or the distance to the wall (the tool doubles the wall distance to get the effective coverage dimension, per NFPA 13), and it calculates:
- Coverage area per sprinkler (sq ft)
- Required flow at each standard hazard density (0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40 gpm/sq ft)
- A custom density line for special design criteria
How to use it
- Set the X (along branch line) and Y (between branch lines) distances.
- Toggle each axis between "between sprinklers" and "to wall."
- Read the coverage area and the required GPM per hazard.
FAQ
- How is coverage area calculated?
- Coverage area = effective X dimension × effective Y dimension, where a "to wall" distance is doubled to represent the full coverage width.
- Is there a mobile version?
- Yes — it's in the free SprinkFlow mobile app, usable in the field and offline.
